Nighthawks

Nighthawks
Edward Hopper
1942
Oil on Canvas

Hopper painted many scenes all with the same theme of loneliness. The title Nighthawks expresses the loneliness of the people who are out at this time of night. This painting is particularly dark, except for the small amount of light that is coming from the diner. I like this painting because of the contrast between the light and dark. It really expresses the loneliness that Hopper was going for. The painting is also meticulous. Hoppers style of painting was very clean and I really enjoy the way he painted. I also like that because he painted during the depression, his paintings showed how the depression could feel.
