Bingham "Fur Traders Decending in Missouri"

George Caleb Bingham
"Fur Traders Decending the Missouri"
1845
Oil on Canvas

George Caleb Bingham was known for his scenes of frontier life. What people may find interesting about Bingham is that he taught himself how to paint and he even made his own pains from various pigments. I enjoy this painting because there is so much scenery that cannot be seen. The great background id washed out so it leaves much for the viewer to imagine. I also like the mirror image on the water.
