San Giorgio Maggiore at Twilight

Claude Monet was a French Impressionist painter who was born in 1840. This is one of his most famous oil on canvas paintings called San Giorgio Maggiore at Twilight (Dusk). This painting is also known as Sunset in Venice. What I really liked about this painting are the vibrant colors- the oranges, reds, pinks, and blues. These colors are reflected upon the water highlighted by the sun shining through the clouds to create a rippling effect. Not only is the setting sun reflected on the water but also the buildings of the city of Venice show their reflection as well as the sun sets behind them. What I found interesting about this was what inspired Monet to paint this landscape. He had just began suffering from gray cataracts & this is what he saw.
