The Green Stripe Matisse
This is a painting done by Henri Matisse in 1905 it is called "The Green Stripe".The painting is said to be a portrait of Madame Matisse. I chose this painting because I loved his use of color not only in the background but also in the face. One of the first things I noticed when looking at the painting was the green stripe going down the middle. On the left side of the green stripe her face is darker and the background is warmer. Whereas on the right side of the green stripe the color of her face is warmer and the background color is darker. This creates a distinct separation and contrast of colors throughout the painting.
