Goya
The Second of May, 1808
This work by Goya is a historical painting, depicting the riot that happened on the second of May when the people of Spain attacked the Mamelukes. I think that Goya depicts the battle scene well. The entanglement of horses and bodies gives the painting a sense of movement and you can anticipate what is going to happen next. I think that having so many things going on in the painting also give the viewer a sense of the chaos that was actually happening at that moment.
